Smecta powder for oral suspension for the treatment of acute diarrhea.
Smecta from the Ipsen Pharma laboratory is used in the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea, in addition to dietary measures, chronic diarrhea and pain in the esophagus, stomach, duodenum or colon.
Smecta Digestive Dressing is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea in children and infants in addition to oral rehydration and in adults.
Symptomatic treatment of chronic diarrhea.
The Smecta powder for oral suspension in sachet is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea in adults as well as in children and infants. It can also be used in cases of chronic diarrhea in adults only and in cases of digestive pain.
Symptomatic treatment of pain related to esogastroduodenal and colic disorders.
Indications:
- The Smecta Sachet is indicated for heartburn and GERD
- Adult diarrhea and gastroenteritis
- Childhood diarrhea and gastroenteritis
- Stomach pain in adults
Directions for use and dosage:
The Smecta powder sachet is a medicine taken preferably after meals for esophageal pain, between meals for other indications. It can be mixed with water or semi-liquid food. For babies, the contents of the sachet can be diluted in a 50 ml bottle.
Usual dosage:
In the treatment of acute diarrhea:
- Adult: 6 sachets per day the first days, then 3 sachets per day.
- Child over 1 year old: 4 sachets per day for 3 days, then 2 sachets per day.
- Child under 1 year old: 2 sachets per day for 3 days, then 1 sachet per day.
In the treatment of chronic diarrhea and digestive pain:
- Adult: 1 sachet, 3 times a day.
- Child from 2 to 15 years old: 1 sachet, 2 or 3 times a day.
- Child from 1 to 2 years old: 1 or 2 sachets per day.
- Child under 1 year old: 1 sachet per day.

Precaution for use:
Warning:
- Diarrhea that is accompanied by torpor, thirst, fever, or blood in the stool quickly requires medical advice. Likewise, in infants, diarrhea accompanied by weight loss of more than 5% (a sign of dehydration) may require urgent care.
- Do not use this medication for a long time without your doctor’s advice: examinations may be necessary if symptoms persist.
- Interactions of the drug SMECTA with other substances.
- This medicine can decrease the absorption of many medicines. A delay of at least 2 hours (or even 4 hours with antibiotics of the quinolone family) must be observed between taking this medication and taking other treatments. Ask your doctor or pharmacist.
- Fertility, pregnancy and lactation
- The substances contained in this medication are poorly absorbed. However, do not use it for a prolonged period during pregnancy or breastfeeding without the advice of your doctor or pharmacist.
